Team Points Program

AYSO is a volunteer-driven organization. From coaches and referees to board members and beyond, AYSO can only operate successfully with the involvement of parents and guardians. PHMSA thrives because of your support!

To ensure our region runs smoothly, all PHMSA families are expected to contribute to our volunteer program in some capacity.

Volunteer Requirement & Point System

Three years ago, we introduced a point-based volunteer system, which has played a key role in our successful seasons. Based on community feedback, we continue to refine and improve this system. If you're returning this year, here’s what to expect:

  • Core Volunteer Positions: Each team (6U and up) must fill all required core volunteer roles before receiving uniforms.
  • 10U and Up – Earning Points:
    • Each core volunteer role earns 1 point toward the team’s total.
    • Referees will earn the remaining points needed to meet the season’s requirement.
  • Incomplete Volunteer Requirements: Teams that do not meet the required points will be ineligible to compete in the elimination stages of the PHMSA Cup (10U-14U).
Your involvement directly impacts the success of our program. Thank you for stepping up and making soccer possible for our players!

10U – 19U POINTS PROGRAM:

All teams are expected to earn 7 Core Position points and an additional 16 points through their team referees.

 10U - 19U
Points Required: 23
Deadline: End of PHMSA Cup Pool Play - October 26
# of Refs per team: 2

How to Earn Referee Points (10U – 19U)

Refereeing is a key way to fulfill your team's volunteer requirement. Each game officiated earns points toward your team’s total:

  • Assistant Referee (AR) – 1 point per game
  • Center Referee – 2 points per game
Referees on each team can divide the point responsibility however it works best for them.

Important Notes:

  • Referees may officiate in both AR and Center roles, working together to complete their combined points total 16 for the season.
  • All referees complete the same training.
  • We understand that some volunteers may feel more comfortable in certain roles, and teams have the flexibility to decide how to split referee duties.
  • Examples below:
Referee #1Referee #2 Total team points
 4 games @ CR 4 games @ CR = 16 points
 4 games @ CR 8 games @ AR = 16 points
 8 games @ AR 8 games @ AR = 16 points
Or any combination of the two! = 16 points!

FOR REFEREES:

Every team 10U and above is expected to have a minimum of two certified referee volunteers designated at the beginning of the season to ensure the matches are properly covered.  If there is no certified referee for the match – there is no match, and the goals are put away. Team referees do not have to be directly associated with the team (they do not have to be parents/grandparents/siblings).  However, team referees should not center referee their teams’ games each weekend - they can AR. (They will not be allowed to ref their own games during the PHMSA Cup).

To ensure that all matches are covered by qualified and certified referees, all teams at 10U and older are subject to this policy.  If teams fail to meet this requirement, they will be ineligible to compete in the elimination stages of the PHMSA Cup (10U-14U) or participate in the Area Cup.

Earning/Crediting Points

  • Referees should sign up for games on PHMSA fields using the RefScheduler platform, before or after the game (for matches you cover at the field).  Point calculations are based on this schedule.
  • If you cover an Interplay game (12U / 14U / 19U) at an away field, contact [email protected] to receive credit.
  • You do not receive credit in our reporting until you assign yourself to each game you worked on RefScheduler.  Please do this asap so our referee point reporting is as accurate as possible each week.

Referee Point Reporting

The Ref Admin team will publish the first referee point report by team approximately halfway through the season (and weekly after that) to the coaches and referees for each team.  You can email [email protected] with any questions.
